ASPIRATIONS
for Woodwind Quintet

• Composed for and dedicated to Vanderbilt Unversity's Blair Faculty Woodwind Quintet.
• Premiered by the Blair Woodwind Quintet October 8, 2018 at Vanderbilt University.

ASPIRATIONS presents a structure of tangent themes derived from a five-pitch motto stated at the beginning by the clarinet. The full motto is heard frequently throughout the work, marking the end of major sections. A sub-motto consisting of pitches 2-4 appears embedded in themes and transitions, and in a variety of background guises. The tonal centers marking the end of each of the three movements also trace its shape.
